The Migrant Response and Resources Mechanism (MRRM) is a dedicated initiative that prioritizes the well-being and successful reintegration of migrants who have chosen to return to their country of origin. Our primary goal is to ensure that their return journey is facilitated with voluntary assistance, focusing on their safety and dignity throughout the process.

Our Pillars

To achieve this, the MRRM operates through seven key pillars, which serve as the foundation of our work:

  1. Direct assistance to migrants in transit: We provide immediate support and aid to migrants during their transit phase, offering necessary resources and services.
  2. Assisted voluntary return: We facilitate the voluntary return of migrants by providing them with the necessary assistance and support throughout the return process.
  3. Reintegration assistance: We offer comprehensive support to returning migrants, helping them reintegrate into their communities and establish sustainable livelihoods.
  4. Protection: We prioritize the protection of vulnerable groups, including children, women, and victims of trafficking, providing them with the necessary care, support, and legal assistance.
  5. Awareness-raising: We engage in awareness-raising activities to inform migrants about their rights, risks, and available resources, promoting informed decision-making and safe migration practices.
  6. Search and rescue: We actively participate in search and rescue operations to ensure the safety and well-being of migrants in distress.
  7. Migratory flow monitoring: We monitor migratory flows to gather data and insights that inform our strategies and support evidence-based decision-making.

In addition to facilitating safe and dignified returns, the MRRM collaborates closely with IOM’s Migration Governance Unit and Community Stabilization Programme. Together, we work to support the Nigerien government's efforts in developing effective approaches to address migration challenges. We aim to strengthen resilience, promote development, and foster peace in the areas of origin for the migrants.
